Türkiye has been confirmed as the host and presidency holder of the COP31 Climate Summit to be held in 2026, following Australia’s withdrawal from the race. Under the agreement between the two countries, Australia will lead the negotiations during the summit.
The announcement was made by Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum after intensive diplomatic talks at COP30 in Brazil. The summit is planned to take place in November 2026 in Belek, Antalya.
After hosting the G20 Summit in 2015, Belek will once again step onto the global stage. COP31 is expected to provide a major MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) boost for the region. Hotels are forecast to reach full occupancy during November, traditionally considered the low season. Tens of thousands of delegates will generate significant economic activity across accommodation, transportation and food services.
Experts emphasize that COP31 will reinforce Belek’s position not only as a leisure destination but also as a global congress hub capable of hosting complex international events.
Sustainability standards will become mandatory for hotels hosting the summit. Carbon management, zero-waste practices and international green certifications are expected to play a decisive role in facility selection.
With high-profile delegations staying for extended periods, tourism revenue per guest is projected to rise significantly. Industry representatives call for immediate preparations, including staff training, infrastructure upgrades and green energy investments.
COP31 is described as a historic opportunity to strengthen Türkiye’s global tourism prestige.
